Any chance,  on Mac, of adding a preference for where the library folder search path? So it would be stored like other preferences of the app in the existing  ~/Library/Preferences/org.openscad.OpenSCAD.plist

This would probably make sense not just for macOS but as a generally available UI feature.
One usability challenge could be that (if memory serves me right), we don’t honour these preferences in cmd-line mode, which could trip up some users.
There’s a discussion related to macOS library path in https://github.com/openscad/openscad/issues/1524 https://github.com/openscad/openscad/issues/1524

Is anybody else still having the problem where the universal MacOS build keeps asking for permission to access the “Documents” folder. There was some discussion about this in January. All of my settings are correct. I’m running the latest development snapshot and I’ve deleted all of the other copies of OpenSCAD.

Thanks.

Yeah, it’s asking me every once in a while, presumably related to auto-saves.

Actually, I just tried to export a model and had that dialog box pop up 5 times in a row before I could access the save panel.

It’s a known issue, but unfortunately I cannot seem to reproduce it, neither on my Mac or on a fresh VM install.
If anyone can find a way of reliably reproduce this on a fresh install, that would be really helpful.

If it helps, when it popped up multiple times for me, I had just opened the app, written a two-line file, rendered it (without saving) and tried to export.

Are you running on Apple Silicon or Intel?

This never happened with my local M1 build, only with the universal build. Maybe it has something to do with how the universal build is generated?

Perhaps it is somewhat encouraging that it doesn’t happen to everyone. For me, it happens with each file I open and every file that gets included in a “use” statement. It appears to happen less to other people.

I’ll play around with things to see if I can make it stop.

I’m on apple silicon. Never saw this behavior when running the intel-only builds via rosetta. It also seems to be related to the autosave feature, because it happens much more often when working with code that hasn’t been saved yet.

It is also related to features that are new in MacOS 11 or 12, so if you’re trying to reproduce it on an earlier OS, that’s probably why it’s not working.

My main laptop is on the latest macOS on Apple Silicon. I’ve also set up a few UTM (https://getutm.app/ https://getutm.app/) VMs, without being able to reproduce.
My Intel Mac running 11.6.2 also doesn’t see this problem, neither does any VMs I run on that one.

I’ve tried universal builds, Intel builds, Apple Silicon-only builds.
..so it’s puzzling indeed.

Any signal showing where this behaviour starts of stops would be helpful.

Are you using a local documents folder, or one synced to iCloud? That could be the difference.

Then again, I also get the popup when working with .scad files in my downloads folder, which is similarly protected but not part of iCloud sync. I get it when opening a .scad file located in my downloads folder, and again any time I try to preview/render/export that file without making any modifications.
