I don’t use iCloud but I always get the pop up on first loading OpenScad M1 only or Universal despite having given OpenScad Files and Folder access.
I can then operate as normal until I close OpenScad.
The rosetta version works OK but is significantly slower. Big Sur 11.6.4

Are you using a local documents folder, or one synced to iCloud? That could be the difference.
Then again, I also get the popup when working with .scad files in my downloads folder, which is similarly protected but not part of iCloud sync. I get it when opening a .scad file located in my downloads folder, and again any time I try to preview/render/export that file without making any modifications.

My main laptop is on the latest macOS on Apple Silicon. I’ve also set up a few UTM (https://getutm.app/ https://getutm.app/) VMs, without being able to reproduce.
My Intel Mac running 11.6.2 also doesn’t see this problem, neither does any VMs I run on that one.
I’ve tried universal builds, Intel builds, Apple Silicon-only builds.
..so it’s puzzling indeed.
Any signal showing where this behaviour starts of stops would be helpful.

This never happened with my local M1 build, only with the universal build. Maybe it has something to do with how the universal build is generated?
Perhaps it is somewhat encouraging that it doesn’t happen to everyone. For me, it happens with each file I open and every file that gets included in a “use” statement. It appears to happen less to other people.
I’ll play around with things to see if I can make it stop.

It’s a known issue, but unfortunately I cannot seem to reproduce it, neither on my Mac or on a fresh VM install.
If anyone can find a way of reliably reproduce this on a fresh install, that would be really helpful.

Is anybody else still having the problem where the universal MacOS build keeps asking for permission to access the “Documents” folder. There was some discussion about this in January. All of my settings are correct. I’m running the latest development snapshot and I’ve deleted all of the other copies of OpenSCAD.
Thanks.

Just installed the latest Mac Universal build on my Intel Mac Mini. I did not seer the problem, but I never access the downloads folder.
Every bit of data that I care about is in a Dropbox folder.

You would probably still see it asking for access to the documents folder in some circumstances, since the auto backup feature puts things there.

I moved my Documents folder to iCloud to see if that made a difference. I still get lots of unnecessary requests.
