Dear OpenSCAD community
I am Vishal, a 3rd year engineering student from Indian Institute of
Information Technology, India.

I have a huge interest in robotics field and i am really excited to
contribute in : Create an OpenSCAD Introduction for use in Education. Its
very important to provide a revamped documentation on its applications and
including various other topics including How to Introduce OpenSCAD to
newcomers: What is it? Who should use it? How does it work? Develop simple
simulations etc.

I am very much interested in both modelling , I have knowledge about the
different modelling software, I felt that this project is the best choice
for me to showcase it and produce effective results.

I really feel excited to contribute to open source community.I got a quick
view of OpenSCAD software and its application areas.

It would be great if you tell what next should I do.
Thanks for your time.

As the list of participating Open Source Organizations for
Google Season of Docs is out only since Monday, we don't have
a news article out yet, but for everyone interested, please
have a look at

https://www.openscad.org/gsod-2020.html

So if you are interested in picking that project about creating
course material for use by educators and teachers, there's a
couple of steps to go:

  • Show some examples of previous work, GSoD expects writers to
have good knowledge of how to work on documentation, we would
bring in the knowledge about OpenSCAD. By working together,
we should be able to create some nice official documentation
    available for everyone.
That does not necessarily mean having professionally worked
as technical writer, but it's not meant to teach how to write
    documentation either.

  • Decide for a specific target audience, we left that open in
the project description as there could be different audiences
that could benefit from having material easily accessible.

  • Select topics to cover. The project list has a number of
possible topics, but there are certainly more interesting
    things to talk about.

  • Find out more about OpenSCAD, talk to us, on the IRC channel
or here on the forum/mailing list.

  • Propose how the course material can be created in a way that
it's usable for different people in different environments
(schools, hacker spaces, at home...) while also being easily
    available on the OpenSCAD website.

  • Propose a detailed timeline about the project.

Having CAD experience will certainly help, even though OpenSCAD
is quite different from common (Mechanical) CAD packages and
is not about competing with those.

I hope the list is not too intimidating, but GSoD is a
three month project, so it's possible to cover a lot of
ground in that time.

ciao,
Torsten.

Thanks for the reply and guidance.

At present I don't have any technical writing experience but being a
technical student I'm well aware of the technical understanding needed to
accomplish the the project. I'm well aware of the things needed to pull off
the project successfully.

I might be able to provide you with a technical documentation during the
proposal time by contributing it to your existing documentation which you
can review.

Thanks for time and consideration
