Cura - support reveal and XYZ specs

Hi my esteemed listmates,

My apologies for having to post this but I;m receding such disisevice with
Lulzbot tech support.

Their "tech" (loosely defined) keeps sharing screen shot of what I should
see and his settings but I  have every setting set as he does yet Cura
3.6.20 something (I'm not at that computer now) will not reveal the red
areas where support is needed.

I'm just trying to see where support on this Thingiverse file is needed and
then how to (active verb?) "apply" or "insert" that support?

I never received any training in 3D printing nor with Cura so I'm
self-taught.

Also, once I've cut the gcode on a file I then save that to an SD card and
insert that SD card into our public library Lulzbot Taz 6 printer and print
from that sdc card.

My question is (and Lullzbit can't answer it) is if I forget to write down
the X Y Z numbers for a print and then shut down the printer and the
computer running Cura is powered off how can I ascertain what those exact X
Y Z specs are days or weeks later?

Is there any software which can inform me of those X Y Z specs in a gocode?

It's been so frustrating over months now to make any progress with Cura and
their lack of help.

Thank you so much.

Charles.

First item is that cura is several years old. The latest that works is
v5.2.1 as an AppImage for your architecture and OS.

Many times that is best.

That is all carved into the gcode cura generates, that file, once
generated, can then be used to make 10,000 copies of whatever you
modeled.  As long as the file isn't deleted, if it worked the first
time, it should Just Work another 10.000 times.  The generated gcode
will or should, self calibrate the luzbot

Is there any software which can inform me of those X Y Z specs in a gocode?

It can be inspected with any test reader, like less on a linux system.
Do you know what the gcode looks like?

It's been so frustrating over months now to make any progress with Cura
and their lack of help.

They do have a bug reporting form but first, update to a current
version, its probably been fixed yonks ago, here I'm running debian
bullseye, and the cura AppImage that does not contain the word modern,
that word indicates its for the even newer "testing" versions of linux
and does not run on bullseye.  There is a newer 5.3.0 out, but it won't
slice my stuff. S/B a 5.3.1 that fixes that in a few days.

Thank you so much.

Charles.

I can explain the logic here as I understand and probably make a function
to do that in some free time.

If you are 3d printing means the file has triangulation.

1st step is to extract the vertices and faces data from the file. I found a
library in python which does this well (libigl)

2nd step is to draw normals from each face.

If the z- value of normal drawn is less than 0, means it needs a support.

Now for each face where z-normal is <0, 3 points needs to be projected on
x-y plane and create a polyhedron with projected and original points list.

I tried Cora once and was so annoyed by it in the first few minutes I went back to PrusaSlicer and stayed there. I have no problem with it, but then I do not do any of the fancy slicer things that some do. And I have a Prusa printer. With all the custom profiles available I barely have to think about the slicer. I am on a Mac, so that may be relevant.
