I typically do not run the snapshot, but nophead's recent code to always show a message in the lower left of the screen was too tempting. In the snapshot 1) when I start the program and load a file, and I type something, nothing is entered into the editor.  Focus always (recently) has started out in the editor. Can this be restored? 2) if I search for something, and find it, and hit <esc>, the search goes away (good) but when I type, nothing happens. Again, focus is somewhere other than in the editor.
