making resized/repositioned windows "stick"?

I just put openscad version 2025.03.02 (git ce2b6f207) on to my laptop and spent the next couple of very frustrating hours trying to find a way of making the windows stay where I want them. After carefully positioning them, calling up a design or two and doing a few things, I close the program down then re-open it a minute or two later- to find it once again has completely ignored where the windows where and reverts back to it's own ideas!

Some time ago, I struggled for a while with this on my main machine, until openscad suddenly decided to leave them where I put them- I never actually figured out what the trick was.

So can anyone please tell me- how do I make the windows go to where I have put them when I restart the program??
