It sounds like you're already aligned with my thoughts on how keyboard

Did others try reproducing the behaviour I described? At present I
have half a dozen files open, from various sources. All covering
aspects I'm trying to learn, predominantly in Preview mode. Using
promising code copy/pasted into my own WIP. Maybe there's a setting I
haven't found which will automate it, but, as I said, at present when
I switch from window X to Y, the last view previewed in window X is
displayed (or is displayed when I hit F5, and possibly also then View
All).

I assume that you really mean tabs, rather than windows.

Yes, wrong term, sorry!

Yes, switching tabs in the editor doesn't switch what's shown in the 3D
pane

Thanks for confirming.

If you use multiple windows then each editor gets its own 3D pane and
the problem doesn't exist.

Agreed. And Windows also allows fast toggling with Alt+Tab.

But conversely tabs let me see all associated ('project') SCAD files at
a glance, without finding them and clicking in the taskbar.

IMO OS just needs some code to automate at least the preview directly
after activating a tab. Or an external macro like mine ;-)
