upgrade the binary file

is there any updated generic binary linux package? the current version on
website is for 2014. I could not compile the source code.

There are experimental AppImage builds available at
https://bintray.com/probono/AppImages/OpenSCAD#files which will
need a bit more testing before being listed on the main download
page.

Those are provided by probono (https://github.com/probonopd), the
main developer of the AppImage project (http://appimage.org/).
