Hi my esteemed listmates,

I'm not sure this is an appropriate post for this list so I apologize if
it's not.

We're creating a short video intro to our Maker Space at our public
library.

1). What 3D prints do middle to high school students like printing which
help them learn STEM (Science, Math, Physics, etc. ? e.g. Dragons, action
heroes, princesses, race cars
2).  What cool prints are adults making these days? Catan-like board games,
chess pieces, fixes for broken items
3), What practical prints are adults making? e.g. Vices, adjustable
wrenches, parts to an appliance, etc

Any other list or organization you can please share that I should reach out
to would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to communicate with Maker Bot.

Thank you!

Charles.

Short answer: "All of the above"

2nd answer: Any/Every-thing on Thingiverse that has a picture/video of it
in use

Why does it have to be popular prints? The point about the 3D printer is
you print what you want or need; not a replacement for mass produced.

Personally it is replacment parts and mechanical pieces (gear, bracket,
fittings) for my hobby - designed with OpenSCAD of course

I was involved pre-COVID with the local library's makerspace. A relatively popular make on the 3D printer is personalized keychains, although the development was done via Tinkercad and to a lesser extent, OnShape. The latter proved to be too complex for many and was shelved in short order.
My experience with the two groups that were operating is that "we don't do math." I've been a fan of OpenSCAD, but have only introduced it to two visitors to the library. One of them codes his own Android apps which shows he's not lacking in the thinking department.
The adult visitors to the makerspace would often request replacements for missing game pieces (break the ice) and occasionally for prototypes to be created to support development of a product. In one case, 3D printed sleeves for a kaleidoscope provided me with an interesting project.
For the younger set, Batman wings, tiny rocket ship silhouettes, hearts and flowers were pretty popular. Just about anything contemporary for the age group, related to pop groups hits home for them too.

It's going to be hard to pigeon-hole specific categories for a public makerspace, but it's likely you'll have some fun.
