I’m working through the distributors tutorial for BOSL2.
grid_copies(20, n=[12,6], stagger=false) sphere(d=10);
produces
While
grid_copies(20, n=[12,6], stagger=true) sphere(d=10);
produces
It seems like half the objects are missing, or am I missing something?
Mark
I didn't write grid_copies, but evidently it produces the staggered pattern
by omitting half of the objects. (I'll bet that's exactly how the internal
logic works.) The docs could be more clear.

If you look, there are 12 unique columns and 6 rows in both un-staggered and staggered forms. When you stagger each row halfway it ends up doubling the number of effective columns. I seem to recall that there was some argument a number of years ago about whether the columns should be counted that way or not, and I got talked around to counting it this way. So, it's behaving as intended. At this point it'd break things if we changed it.

And thank you gentlemen for indirectly showing me an easy way to make perforated panels for any of my projects that need ventilation!
Much better than the way I have been doing it.

A baby can be defined as an ego with a noise at one end and a smell at the other.
Your job as parents is to teach them to control all three.
My job as a grandad is to tell you how you are doing it all wrong!
