Preview Infinite Loop

Good day.

I have started having a problem with OpenSCAD 2021.01 and I am hoping that
the OpenSCAD developers can give me some clues to help me track this down.

I normally run OpenSCAD with Design -> “Automatic Reload and Preview”
CHECKED.

Starting this past week, after starting OpenSCAD and using CTRL-S to save a
change, OpenSCAD started continually performing Preview operations.  It’s
as if the F4 key was stuck and was continually firing.

Unchecking “Automatic Reload and Preview” gets it to stop.

This was running on Ubuntu 20.04. It also happens running on Linux Mint 20
(which is based on Ubuntu 20.04).

I feel that this is NOT an OpenSCAD issue.  But, I’m hoping that the
developers can tell me what, exactly, triggers the Preview when “Automatic
Reload and Preview” is CHECKED. That way I may be able to track down what
driver/kernel is causing this.

Thanks!

Len

It is actually full Preview, constant messages in the Log? v's the Preview panel re-painting itself?

Does it also happen for save via the menu?

The auto reload/preview is based on file date-time stamps.

Do you have either an unusual file system/mapping or something touching files like auto backup/sync etc?

Assuming that, since this was a recent problem, there must have been an OS
update that triggered it. I reverted to an earlier kernel (specifically,
from the latest, 15.13.0-30, to an older, stable kernel, 5.4.0-100-generic)
and the problem has gone away, for now.

Something to note and be vigilant about in the future, I guess.

Thanks!
