Recently,
I’ve noticed that if leave OpenSCAD open and I’m not doing anything in the program, it will crash with a segmentation fault.
I am running a M4 Pro Mac Mini with 48 GM of RAM running OSX 26.3 (Tahoe). I”m not running a lot of programs, so I don’t think I’m taxing the memory.
I’m running OpenScad 2026.02.13, but saw the same with the previous version.
I don’t know that it’s important, but the models I’ve was working on usually involve a Minkowski transform.
My normal workflow would be to create and export a .3mf file from OpenScad, import that file to Bambu Studio and print it. I’m away from the computer while the model is printing and when I return, OpenScad has crashed with the segmentation fault.
I’ve not experienced the segmentation fault while I’m actively editing the model in OpenScad.

Are you able to extract a crash report from Console.app ?

I’ve noticed that if leave OpenSCAD open and I’m not doing anything in the program, it will crash with a segmentation fault.
Attached is a crash report. There were 3 in my console. All were similar (segmentation fault).
Also, just as a check. I opened OpenScad and started with a new empty file and left it running overnight. No crash and is was still running in the morning.

The following might help prove the problem:
defaults write org.openscad.OpenSCAD NSLayerPerformanceMode -int 1
It's supposed to prevent memory compression.
On the M4 Pro, macOS Tahoe uses a new "Dynamic Memory Compression" for background apps. When OpenSCAD is idle, Tahoe likely compresses or moves the memory associated with the OpenGL back-buffer. When the app performs a routine UI heartbeat (like blinking the cursor or checking for a file change), it attempts to move data to a "Front Buffer" that the OS has invalidated or relocated.
So please reproduce, then try the above command, then try again.
If I'm right, you'll want to render some or many really complicated shapes first to make it more likely to get compressed.

Thanks Mark,
This looks very similar to https://github.com/openscad/openscad/issues/6475
I don’t currently have access to macOS 26 on real hardware, only in a VM, so I haven’t been able to test this.
I don’t dare upgrade my main dev machine, but I’ll try to find a machine to test on.
In the meantime, please add any information you may have to that ticket and follow it for updates.

i have tahoe, version 26, on my macbook .. i can try to reproduce this problem. do i need to have a particular file open, or just any old large complex rendering? and dev snap version or the stable release? i saw the version in the OG report but which one is best to reproduce in? -- jeff is vulcan_ in the cloud On Feb. 15, 2026, at 6:52 p.m., Marius Kintel via Discuss discuss@lists.openscad.org wrote: Thanks Mark, This looks very similar to https://github.com/openscad/openscad/issues/6475 I don’t currently have access to macOS 26 on real hardware, only in a VM, so I haven’t been able to test this. I think it should be the most recent snapshot you can get, and the file shouldn't matter, just render something complicated once.
