I'd much rather we leave the editor basic, and focus development efforts
on OpenSCAD itself.
No need to focus any effort at all: it's already done; it just has to be
merged in the main branch.
OpenSCAD works very well with your editor of choice (I use vim), while
at the same time trying to make OpenSCAD a first rate text editor would
be a huge effort.? Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like most advanced
OpenSCAD users aren't using the built-in editor anyway.
I strongly disagree. In any case if you don't use the built in editor,
what's the reason for opposing the enhancement?
Would be better to just write an Eclipse plugin for OpenSCAD syntax. Far
easier than writing a full featured text editor.
An external editor is always cumbersome to use. I used to do that with
OpenSCAD's old version which was using a rather rough text editing
component.
