Administrator Mode

I never had to run OpenSCAD in Administrator mode, but now I do with the
2/25 release.  This is a minor pain in the neck, since I have been
unable to find any combination of compatibility settings under
Properties that will allow me to do this automatically.  Even right
clicking and selecting Run As Administrator still requires another click
before the program runs.

Anyone have any tips on how to make this process easier?

I just run with UAC off and have good firewalls (plural) and virus scanners.

You don't say what version of windows you have.

For Windows 7:

To mark an application to always run as an administrator, do the following:

  1. On the Start menu, locate the program that you want to always run as an
    administrator.
  2. Right-click the application’s shortcut, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.
  4. Do one of the following:
To apply the setting to the currently logged-on user, select the Run This
Program As An Administrator check box, and then click OK.
To apply the setting to all users on the computer and regardless of which
shortcut is used to start the application, click Change Setting For All
Users to display the Properties dialog box for the application’s .exe file,
select the Run This Program As An Administrator check box, and then click OK
    twice.

The application will now always run using an administrator access token.
Keep in mind that if you are using a standard account and prompting is
disabled, the application will fail to run.

My understanding of the problem was that it shouldn't be necessary to run OpenSCAD as administrator in the first place.

I recall someone saying it was fiddling with areas of the registry which
required it, vague recall that if may be the first run which sets stuff up.

I just changed UAC to max and 2015.02.25 ran without triggering UAC, NOT run
as Admin.

I just downloaded a version (2015.02.15) which I have not previously. Set it
up, no UAC events.
I've probably got whatever in my registry already.
