Edit->Preferences, click on advanced tab and then /untick/ "Enable undocking
of Editor and Console to separate window".
Ensure hide editor is unticked in the view menu as well.
This will force openscad to display the editor window in a docked
configuration, retrieving it from oblivion.
I had a very similar problem to the original post which happened when I
clicked the undock editor button (top right of editor window) and the editor
window vanished into oblivion. I'm not sure why. But clicking hide/show in
View menu had no effect. I was able to retrieve the window with the method
above. I think it might have been because I had been using a two screen
setup previously and the editor window might have been displayed off screen
but that's just a guess.
