I got involved in this Discussion group as its name, "OpenSCAD general
discussion Mailing-list", implied that it was to discuss Openscad.
After receiving a few hundred emails about the pros and cons of
CadQuery, I suspect I am wrong.
Is there an Openscad group/forum I could join where I can help and where
I made be able to receive assistance?
If one goes back a few hundred messages you may be able to find my
original question about Openscad which no one ever answered. Found the
solution myself.

Totally agree, lets focus on openscad.

@Alf: What was your question and solution? :)

I created a script to make a gear, enclosing the teeth and circle in a
union() to hopefully cut on my cnc machine.
As Freecad saw each tooth as an individual entity rather than a whole
emcompassing all the teeth as well as the circle I thought that union()
had failed.
Eventually discovered the problem was my lack of knowledge as far a
Freecad was concerned.
When I learned how to use PATH & select in Freecad all worked fine and
the problem was neither union() nor Openscad.

Hi Alf,

the only email from any sender with 'alf' in the sender name that I can
find, prior to the one copied below, was dated  3rd April, 2022,
concerning  imported dxf not displaying. That one had replies by quite a
few people. Did this more recent message actually appear in the
discussion mailing list?

Best wishes,

Ray

Hello Raymond. I was reasonably sure that it had appeared but if not it
is not an issue as problem has been resolved. As I reported it was my
lack of Freecad knowledge the caused the problem. Not Openscad.
Back on the add gui to Openscad, for what it is worth, my feeling is
absolutely not.
Keep to the Linux/Unix philosophy of keep it simple but perfect. If
users require gui tools there are plenty available.

My mail tool currently counts about 45 messages with CadQuery in their
subjects.  That includes about 15 that diverged into a discussion of how
(and whether) to do CAM with OpenSCAD, itself with a digression into
licensing of some slicer.  It also includes about 17 that are about
weaknesses in OpenSCAD and attitude problems in the OpenSCAD community.
I count maybe 17 that are more or less purely about CadQuery and not
OpenSCAD.  (Yeah, the numbers don't add up.)

Is there an Openscad group/forum I could join where I can help and

My surveys indicate that this is by far the most active OpenSCAD
community.  You could try reddit, for instance, but it has many fewer
people involved.  In my occasional looks, I don't see any of the "usual
suspects" hanging out there.

You could file issues at Github, and the discussion would be almost
completely limited to OpenSCAD, but you'd likely get told that "how to"
questions really belong on the mailing list.

It's a community with a very broad set of interests.  Conversations will
drift and there will always be conversations that for one reason or
another you're not interested in.

If one goes back a few hundred messages you may be able to find my
original question about Openscad

Nope.

which no one ever answered. Found the solution myself.

... which was about FreeCAD, not OpenSCAD.  Good thing nobody jumped
down your throat for being off-topic.

@!$#&(*)$#

I hate it that Reply doesn't reply-to-sender for those messages.  I
intended that to be private.  I thought I double-checked.  (And I did,
and I was misled by the fact that the full-name part said "alf".)

Sorry, all.
