Proofread manual changes

Thanks to the encouragement of a couple of principal members, I have become
brave enough to make changes to parts of the manual. I have added examples
and hopefully made them more readable.

While I play with them in the sandbox, and reread them several times before
posting, I still miss things.

I really miss someone to proofread before I post.
