See my other post, Terrypin. I think its fixed, the problem never
was visible even in curas previews, only showing up on the build
plate. It was a combo of the wrong driver, and an stl that was
vertically centered with 6mm below the plate and 6mm above.
Check to see if Cura has a "Lie flat" button. Slic3r and Prusa Slicer
both have it. That way, it doesn't matter where the stl thinks it is
vertically, or even it it's tilted. It will plop it down to Z=0, and
show you what corrections it made when you look at the 'Rotate"
setting.
Cura has all that. And the next print that was in progress, cleaned up of
all the stringing, about .1mm too big. Pretty good for a SWAG. Making
the next one with 30% more infill in gyroid pattern, .1mm smaller, which
will also improve the wall strength a teeny amount. Then it might be
time to rig it on the motor, add some plastic lube on the bb's and drive
it for a day to see what if anything breaks. Added a mm to the
retraction got rid of most of the stringing. At 2mm high its a whole lot
cleaner a print. If it doesn't plug up. It is still using retractions by
the thousands. And I still don't have a side fan, its hot enough to
burn a finger but not running. I've sent a msg to the vendor but no
reply as yet. PETG doesn't want it, but this is the starter PLA.
Thanks lar3ry.

Thanks, that’s one possible cause I’d never have dreamt of! Plausible
reasoning though.
However, that image was received by several here. Highlighting difficulty of
gathering practical evidence. Bit like “Can you hear me at the back of the
class?”

Well, as an old (86) Iowa born farm kid, we'd call that question about as
useless as the teats on a boar hog. :) You will either get a yes
because they did hear you, or silence because they didn't.
