The font dialog is only slow when creating the font cache. This typically happens the first time you run OpenSCAD.

The cache typically resides in  C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\fontconfig\cache.
If you remove it, it will take time to rebuild.

Ah, I was looking for a %localappdata%\OpenSCAD folder, didn't realize it was
just named fontconfig. When I emptied it OpenSCAD used 80 seconds to display
the dialog. Not so nice.

It will build the cache first time you use the text() module or show the Font List window, assuming you have a recent enough OpenSCAD with text enabled.

PS! Text is from today no longer experimental

Just added a progress indicator. That should improve UX a tiny bit at least.

That took a long time, and I only have a few fonts. Strange.
