Hmm, not much progress with that lately, but maybe we can
think about including it to get feedback. I guess it needs
quite some real-life testing on various machines/platforms.

As a preference/feature, yes please.
The only issue I had was sometimes a slight 'drift' when in neutral
position, it just needs a sensitivity setting, so it can be set to ignore
tiny axis readings, or ignore values smaller than X.
