Maximum surface size

What to people find is the largest reasonable sized PNG to use for a surface()?

Would 2560x1440 pixels be sane?

Use case:  Surface a PNG or import an SVG for use as a lithopane or
similar on my resin printer.  2560x1440 is the resolution, but my computer
doesn't like that large a PNG for a surface.
