Jun 14, 2020; 3:42pm The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- Nabble is not profitable. Google AdSense is paying less and isn't covering costs. I have asked Israel to look into ways of getting more money. If he can't find any, then I will shut down most of Nabble. But since I personally use Nabble, I will keep one Nabble server. In this case, anyone who wants to stay on Nabble can have their forum migrated to this server. Nabble has no future. I had planned to write new forum software to replace Nabble, but I don't have the time. If anyone is interested in working with me on new forum software, I am open to this. I will describe what I have in mind. Nabble's scripting system is NAML. I wrote this and I consider it a failure. It is too complicated. I realized that a simple high-level scripting language is better, so I wrote one called Luan. I have been using this language for years to develop various business websites. This language is a success in the sense it that is very easy to program websites with it. (It isn't popular, only I use it. But that is no reflection on quality since humanity generally has extremely poor taste.) Another weakness of Nabble is it is one program running for everyone. This means that when I do an update, everyone is updated and this can break people's customizations. But with a forum written in Luan, each forum could have its own source and control its own updates. And finally, the future of the web is social. Nabble isn't social. Social forums make it much easier for people to find your forum. So a new forum software should be social. The obvious social forum today is Reddit. Besides being a typical intolerant politically correct Silicon Valley tyranny, Reddit is generally a poorly designed forum. It isn't nearly as customizable as traditional forum software. So the best of both worlds would be a fully customizable forum that is also social like Reddit. If anyone is interested in working with me on this, please let me know. But I won't hold my breath and most likely no one will respond. In this case, those looking for a forum with a future should look elsewhere. ================================== Jun 22, 2020; 10:48am Re: The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- GregChapman wrote Is the new forum software Blasma or another project? I am assuming Blasma. If, as you fear, no volunteers come forward and thinking of all those for whom there will be no space on the remaining Nabble server, what are your plans? I don't think this will be an issue. I think everyone will easily fit on one server. As Nabble was pronounced "open source" can you provide documentation to assist those who might have their own web hosting account and either wish to run there own forum on a fork of Nabble or export their forum to an alternative platform? No, I don't have the time for this. But we have an excellent sysadmin who I think would be glad to help people on a consulting basis. When do you plan to circulate forum administrators with the news of the forthcoming shutdown of their server? How much notice do you plan to give of the shut down of any particular server? I haven't thought about these things yet. Before even thinking about this, I need to know whether Israel can make Nabble profitable and I need to know whether someone will take Blasma. It will be a few months before I know these things. ================================== Jun 25, 2020; 6:26am Re: The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- I think most of humanity has degenerated into trash and needs to die before things can improve. But that is God's problem, not mine. I am a programmer and my problem is writing good code. A good forum platform must be fully decentralized so that no human authority can take it down. And it must be social so that people can find new forums. Nabble fails on both. This weekend I plan to write a full explanation of what I have in mind for Blasma which I hope will replace Nabble. ================================== Jun 29, 2020; 9:18am Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- http://www.luan.ws/blasma.html [domain nolonger allocated] I wrote this mostly aimed at the Right because I think they would be the most motivated to help. But given the current sad state of humanity, I really don't expect any help at all. Anyway, I wrote my proposal and if anyone is interested in helping, they can let me know. ================================== Jun 30, 2020; 4:56am Re: Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- http://www.blasma.com/ [The domain name blasma.com is for sale!$39K] This is the old work forum. If someone is serious about working on Blasma, I would get involved. ================================== Jul 15, 2020; 2:13pm Re: Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- I haven't completely given up on humanity, just most of it. Humanity has become incredibly stupid over the last few decades for both environmental and genetic reasons. I hope to work on reversing this by improving education in Islamic schools. I am not Muslim but my experience is that Muslims are the only people willing to listen to me. But my plans are delayed by the Covid hysteria. Blasma is lower priority than this, but I would be willing to work on it if some programmer is willing to help. That programmer should have the sense to recognize that modern software is horrible, and that one should try to make software simple and reliable instead of conforming to insane modern programming ideologies. I generally hate dealing with people (exception religious Muslims and conservative Mennonites), so I am not willing to look for this programmer myself. If you or anyone else can find such a programmer, I would help him with Blasma. I can cover all costs and maybe even pay the programmer something. ================================== Jul 16, 2020; 2:29am Re: Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- ... Blasma would be written in Luan. Luan is a programming language and Blasma is forum software. Jul 16, 2020; 6:12am Re: Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- I never said that I needed money. What I said is that Nabble was operating at a loss which I am unwilling to finance. I already give substantial charity to causes that matter to me, this being mostly Islamic education. My primary concern is raising human intelligence. I am not interested in helping stupid people which is most of humanity. And of course these stupid people hate me for not conforming to their stupid ideas. ================================== Jul 20, 2020; 2:30am Re: Blasma - a possible replacement for Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- Nabble ad revenue seems to be improving, so Nabble will be probably be maintained as is for a while. Blasma currently has some rough code, basically a draft. I don't like the idea of someone doing Blasma short-term. It needs someone who is willing to commit to it. And I would want to review that programmer's code to be sure that he/she is someone that I could work with. I am old and married. I will say that I have never in my life met a good female programmer. That may sound sexist, but it is my experience. I am open to the possibility that good female programmers may exist, but they are certainly very rare. ================================== Selected post Jul 20, 2020; 8:47am Re: The Future of Nabble Israel Administrator ---------------------------------- We are removing old abandoned sites, deleting spam posts and spammers, we're getting more free space by doing that. We didn't move any site to another server, yet. Another issue that we are facing is that most people have adbloker installed then our revenue with the ads are very low. ================================== Aug 31, 2020; 4:49am Re: The Future of Nabble Israel Administrator ---------------------------------- Hello Patty, We don't plan to close Nabble for while. We're trying to fix some internal issues. ================================== Aug 31, 2020; 6:47am Re: The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- Nabble is a free speech platform (within the limits of the law). I happen to agree with you that Covid is a scam pushed by the genocidal scum Gates and Fauci to enslave the population and sell worthless drugs and vaccines. But the American people are just too stupid to understand this, so honestly posting on the internet is a waste of time. Better to move to North Idaho where a small remnant of non-morons still exists. ================================== Nov 27, 2020; 4:52am Re: The Future of Nabble Israel Administrator ---------------------------------- We have no plan to close Nabble. The ideia is to replace Nabble by Blasma. ================================== Jan 11, 2021; 7:06pm Re: The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- ... Thanks, I need to get out of America not too long after Jan 20 when the Silicon Valley fascists take over. When I am settled abroad, I will reconsider Blasma again. ================================== Jun 04, 2021; 1:07pm Re: The Future of Nabble Franklin Administrator ---------------------------------- ... I use Nabble so I just keep it running. I have no plans to do anything with Nabble. But if you could find a non-depraved programmer willing to work with me part-time on developing a replacement, I would do that. My latest thoughts are here [https://saidit.net/s/PhoenixForum/comments/7i60/my_vision_for_social_forums/]. And this [http://www.mikraite.org/Program-for-God-tp2218.html] is the reason that I have chosen not to work on this by myself. [that is Franklin's last post there] ================================== Oct 19, 2021; 4:11am Re: Is Nabble shutting down. Israel Administrator ---------------------------------- Just click on the button to keep your site. We're not going to shut down Nabble. ==================================
